Tackling problem using real subdomains with MU

    OK so I have been looking around for an answer but I am not seeing any with a solution.

    I am running MultiSite and have a mobile version running a real sub domain starting with m.website.com

    WordPress does not allow me to visit this domain name and instead says that the domain does not exists and offers to register it.

    How can I tell WordPress to ignore the m. sub domain and let the user go to the actual sub domain?

    Check your httpd.conf file – Manual subdomains (i.e. m.domain.com) should ALWAYS take precedence over wild cards, but if in your httpd.conf file, you have the wildcard above the M, you may need to swap that.

    So I did find a few files named
    httpd.include and vhost.conf

    I moved the <virualhost> for m.site.com to the top of the virualhost listings and then placed a entry for the m. sub domain in the vhost.conf file like state below.

    Is this the corect way of doing this 

    ServerAlias m.site.com
ServerAlias *.site.com

    I have restarted the site and it still is not working. I probably am doing it wrong just looking for some advice.

    What kind of server are you on? And are you using Apache?

    Sorry for the late reply! Yes, the site is on an Apache server.

    Double check with your host. I use named and wildcard subdomains all the time, so I know this is something that can work.

    We pay for server so we have full root access to it. Maybe the issue is in the server itself but this only happens with this installation of wordpress. The changes can be made on other domains we have hosted on the server and they work. The issue may have be in the way that wordpress is setup but I don’t know here to look.

    Yes, it’s your server. I pay for my server too, and have root access, but I can still call my webhost for help. Which you should do ?? Something’s either set up wrong, or by design, so that you can’t have both wildcard and named domains.
