Tag Not Found
-
I noticed on our Google Ads account, that we have apparently received no conversions since 6th March. I then dug into this, and have found:
- The conversion data in Google Analytics was absurdly high, like hundreds of thousands of GBP! I believe this issue has now been resolved with an update and had something to do with a decimal point not being placed in the correct place. This does seem to have resolved itself on the update from 12th March.
- On or around 6th March, our Analytics account seems to have stopped tracking our orders. If I look at our Google tag, it is properly set up and nothing has changed. The correct Analytics ID is input in the settings for your plugin. But if I then use Google Tag Assistant and Tag Coverage tools, those tools cannot find the tag on our website. Consequently, conversions are not being recorded on Google Analytics, which then feeds no conversions through to Google Ads, which then ruins our Ads account, because it is optimized to operate based on conversion data.
Many people are mentioning these issues. Unfortunately, some of the support responses appear to be blaming the users. For example, quote: “The plugin is working on 200,000+ sites, so it’s definitely due to something unique to your site.” I’m obviously not the only one experiencing the above issues. A number of people seem to be deactivating the plugin, certainly given some of the responses.
In the meantime, I will deactivate the plugin and I’ve manually installed the Google tag on our site. If I manually install the Google tag, and then test it with Google Tag Assistant and Tag Coverage tools, it works fine. So the issue is something related to the plugin. The plugin is somehow not allowing the tag to show.
