I have a problem with taxes and coupons on my woocommerce store. I have prices set to be entered without taxes. So I believe this means I need to enter coupon values without tax.

However some products we sell are tax free, if a customer uses a coupon with these products then the coupon at checkout shows without tax, and the customers complain. As they have a coupon code for one amount and they are getting less off than they thought.

I need the coupon to always show as the full amount, so with the tax. Maybe it can be applied after taxes? Is there a workaround for this at all?

  • Hey there, @tmidd27! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

Can you please share some screenshots of how you have this all set up so we can take a look and try to replicate the issue on our end?

    We need screenshots of:

    • WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes
    • WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes > Standard Rates
    • If you have other rate types set up, please also share them
    • Products > Product that is not taxable > Product Data
    • Products > Product that is taxable > Product Data
    • Marketing > Coupons > Coupon you are adding > Coupon data
    • Checkout page with a product that is not taxable
    • Checkout page with a product that is taxable

I recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

If you can also share a URL for a taxable and a non-taxable product, that would be great too.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

I am also experiencing something similar:

    Taxes are entered inclusive.
    Selling to two countries.
Only one country has a tax rate.
It correctly includes or omits the taxable amount when switching addresses at checkout.
However using a coupon causes it to apply the tax on the non-taxable country. I suspect it is because the coupon grants free shipping, but the non-taxable country does not have a free shipping option (intentionally).

    Thanks.
