Tax based on Product Category

I understand you’d like to add tax rates based on Product categories.

The easiest way to achieve this is using Tax classes as explained here: https://woocommerce.com/document/setting-up-taxes-in-woocommerce/#shipping-tax-class

1. You can define a tax class (For example Clothes)
2. You can define the rates for it.
3. You can mark all the products with that tax class

I knew that was possible but what confused me is that every time I add like 20-30 products, I’ll have to set the classes to each one of them individually.

How do I set it such that after adding products and setting category to them the classes are applied by themselves?

Thanks for getting back to us with your question. The tax class does have to be set per product when adding products to the site.

One option to reduce the workload when doing this is to bulk edit the products and apply tax class. To do this you could filter to a specific category (if that category has its own tax class) you could then select the products en masse and apply the tax class following the steps below:

Thanks for your valuable suggestions. Bulk edit products has made life easier, although one thing I noticed is that tax shows up only when we go to checkout option.

How can we show tax on cart as well?

Please go to WooCommerce > Settings > Tax and check if you have enabled the setting Display prices during cart and checkout to Including Tax like this: https://d.pr/i/TSPGFB
