Tax calculations with Taxjar in Error
-
I use NextGen Pro with ECommerce enabled. I noticed that my Dec 2019 sales where charged less tax than the 6% that VA requires, so I did some research.
Be aware that Imagely deployed an integration with TaxJar in late 2019. TaxJar provides an automatic calculation of sales tax based on seller’s tax nexus (usually state/county) and buyer’s nexus. The user no longer has the ability to tell NextGen Ecommerce plugin what the tax SHOULD be; it’s an on/off situation. If you need to charge sales tax; the request is handed off to NextGen’s integration of TaxJar.
Problem is (as explained below) the integration with TaxJar may not calculate the correct tax for your nexus. For me, it meant a 0.7% under-calculation that I had to pay to the state out of my margins.
Check your late 2019 sales tax calculations. You may need to modify your charges to cover the mandatory taxes.

Though we have not developed an in-house integration with NextGEN Pro, it seems this integration was developed by the team at Imagely on their end.
Please note that this integration isn’t an approved/certified integration.
We would recommend reaching out to the support team at Imagely for more specifics about using their TaxJar integration.
I would also recommend that you request that Imagely contact us with the exact order details that Imagely provided to us for the calculation, as the accuracy will vary depending on the data shared with TaxJar.Once Imagely reaches out to us, we can then troubleshoot this further. Let me know if you have any questions!
