I am trying to use Tax so that only countries in the EU are liable for tax. I have set up tax codes for all of these countries any other country doesn’t pay tax so these codes are not entered.

If you are accessing the website from the UK where we are based then the tax is correct, if you enter another delivery address outside of the EU then the tax is removed, exactly how it should be.

However is someone is viewing the site from another county, not UK then the tax is removed in the product area (set to show prices including Tax) and again at the checkout so the customer doesn’t pay the correct price.

I have used Twenty Sixteen theme and switched off all plugins except Woocommerce and it still happens. We now have a situation where 3 customers have placed orders at the wrong price.

I have tried different variations of the tax settings, but the only one that displays the correct price is ‘Shop Base Address’, but then those outside of the UK can’t get the tax removed.

    Example

Price added to product including Tax £475
    Price showing in UK £475
Price showing outside of the UK £401.67
    Price at basket/checkout outside UK £ 334.73

  • I think your settings should be:
    Default customer location = Geolocate
Calculate tax based on = Customer shipping address

If this doesn’t work, please post a screenshot of your standard rates table and the url for your site.

Geolocate is not 100%, and if the system cannot determine the user’s address, then no tax will be shown in the shop until the last moment on the checkout page when the shipping address is entered. The shipping address validation will add tax at that point just before the user can click pay now.

    Hello

I chose Geolocate(with page caching support) and that appears to have worked. I now get a message in the cart about tax estimate for US and the tax is correct at checkout. Thanks for your help.
