I recently began having an increasing number of orders through your plug-in for express checkout that the tax for the customers province is not being charged when they check out. This is a recent development (1-2 weeks) and seems to depend on how the province is returned from PayPal to the website.

We have not had any other reports of problems with tax being charged, and we are not seeing this ourselves during testing, so it’s a little tough to say what might be going on.

You aren’t using the “Skip Final Review” option in our Express Checkout settings, are you?

When you do get to the review page, is it displaying the shipping address there as expected?

In some cases, it doesn’t return the province to the website, or at least that’s how it appears. This means it doesn’t charge tax since tax is based upon the province. The province is shown in the PayPal Express payment page but on our website it is not so the issue appears to be on the website.

So it looks like the whole address came back here except for the province, right?

Do you have logging enabled in the plugin? If you search the log file for the address in question you should see that it was returned in the GetExpressCheckoutDetails step of the Express Checkout flow.

We need to see if the province was included there and getting lost later, or if maybe it’s not even getting included there..??

Looking at the log it shows the province is in the “response: array”

I believe we have this resolved. Seems that WC changed the names of the functions used to pull shipping data out.

We have fixed this in the release branch on GitHub, and it will be included in our 1.3.0 update that we’re working hard to get released ASAP.

If you want to grab it early to fix this particular issue you can download the updated plugin here and update manually on your site.

Please give that a try and let me know if it helps. Thanks!

Thanks, I have updated the plug-in and will post if we have the same issue come up.
