Taxonomy with subcategories

  • I was wondering, if there is some solution for this problem:

    I’ve got a 2 level taxonomy, and then I am filtering it.

    So, people are selecting the first level, and then when this selection is made, another drop down is filled with all the 2nd level items that have the selected 1st level category as a parent.

    For example

    1 level categories:
    -plants
    -animals
    -stones

    When I choose animals:
    A second filter is shown:

    – bear
    – lion
    – elephant

    How can I do that?
