  • technorati is almost completely broken
pingomatic has been partly broken for a while

I had this same problem and your best bet is email technorati and hope your the one out of every 572 that gets a reply

wow this is nice to know… i had that problem myself, saying it’d been 57 days or something – i went directly to technorati and did a manual ping, and it finally updated… but i don’t want to do that all the time!

I’ve experienced the very same thing too. Technorati, even when manually pinging, seems to be way off.

I’ve also noticed the number of spam blogs it’s flagging up has increased exponentially during the last few months.

Methinks they need to sort it out quickly, else it’ll lose credibility rapidly.

After about a week I received a very nice reply from Technorati support [see below]. They fixed the problem, though I do not know exactly what they did.

Note that she included a new [to me] type of query to verify whether your WP categories are being auto-indexed as tags.

I see that query is available under Search/Options.

    Hello Steve,

Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We’ve been experiencing a backlog in support and are
working hard to address everyone. I’ve taken a look to see if we are successfully indexing your blog. After making a small
adjustment, it looks like all is in order and your blog has been indexed with your most recent posts and tags.

If you do see the issue again, please contact us. Sometimes it takes a little time for the ping to reach us to alert our spiders to
index your blog. If you find it is taking a while for the index, you can ping us directly from “technorati.com/ping”.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions. Thank you for using Technorati!

I replied with a new problem, that WP categories were not being indexed. I also received a reply – and that now seems to be fixed also.

So I’ve shifted from unhappy to very happy with Technorati ??

Yes, I can confirm that for the last half an hour at least, technorati is unavailable due to being “too busy”.

I’m thinking about ditching the tagging thing completely.I mean really, how much traffic is Technorati really sending any of us? If anything we are all sending them traffic. It’s time to put Technorati to sleep… for good.

Prior to this lag in actual updating, I was actually getting a decent amount of traffic from Technorati… since this though, they’re fewer and farther inbetween (like, one every other week!)

Same issue with me, I have written 4 times to Technorati, it is almost one+ month. And I am Still waiting for their reply.

I too have the same problem with the service – it hasn’t updated my entry in over 100 days.

Yes – I agree – there is a WHOLE lot more spam blogs on Technorati these days. Maybe they should reach an agreement with Akismet for filtering ??

    However, this disturbed me:

I’m thinking about ditching the tagging thing completely.I mean really, how much traffic is Technorati really sending any of us?

This is off topic – but if the reason you’re tagging is to generate traffic, and not for searchability and flexibility in organization, then you’re tagging for the wrong reasons. If all you ever blog about is a handful of topics with little overlap (and I don’t know – I didn’t go look at your blog) maybe tagging isn’t for you.
