Tel: protocol for phone shortcode

In the list template there is a mailto: protocol already established for the email address.
I would love to this implemented for the tel: protocol. With this adoption of more and more mobile devices, it seems like an almost necessity to have this built-in.
Yes, I know I can implement via a custom template {same can be said for mailto: but it is implemented here} This one seems like a quick and easy ‘win’ for developers.
