• You might want to check it first before you read what I have to say about it below.

    The site is: https://www.myfitnesswithchris.com

I know it needs a logo. I’m working on it.

I really feel that my page looks too cluttered and attention is taken away from the material that I want someone to see. Or you could just say it’s an eyesore. Is it just me?

It’s a work in progress, but I think I may be going the wrong direction with the whole thing.

The main purpose of my site is to help people with fitness and attract local personal training clients.

I’m considering changing my theme and rearranging stuff. What do you think?

  • My best advice? Too wide and WAY too long. A website should be in pages, with a navigation scheme so that people can find what they are seeking without scrolling through a long page. And PLEASE, dump the animations. You’re using a blog format to do a website. Square peg – round hole. Hope this is helpful. Feel free to email me if you need help.

Doesn’t seem to wide to me, although you have ads sticking out of the side bar and that looks pretty ugly. You might be better using pages and subpages for the exercises so that people can find that information easily through navigating a menu, and save the posts for more ephemeral thoughts. The animations are useful for what you’re trying to do. Keep ’em, but get them off the home page.

“Too wide and WAY too long.”

I had that same feeling. It felt kinda all over the place but, I didn’t know if it was just my feeling because I was the one putting it all together.

“you have ads sticking out of the side bar and that looks pretty ugly.”

I’m guessing you mean the Perform Better, Workout Pass, and Sport Specific ads, and not the google ads, correct?

I guess it does need a major clean up. Thanks for confirming.

I think I’ll try and find a theme and keep the focus on the main part of the page, keep all the navigation at the top, and maybe a nice static home page with links or picture links to relevant sections.

Whether you go for a static home page depends on what you want to do with the site. Do you mainly want to present information in a structured way (e.g. teaching how to do exercises), in which case a static front page and using Pages might be best (navigation becomes very important here), or do you want simply to have a constant flow of articles, in which case something more blog-style and dynamic would work best. Or do you want to combine these two things — using Pages for presenting instructions in an orderly way, and posts for stand-alone articles, news, etc?

And yes, it’s those ads that are sticking out, as is your submit button.

And in the craigslist post you have tabular data — use a table! That’s what they’re for. It’s really untidy to have the information in wobbly pseudo-columns.

I thought that it was a little cluttered but the content was really interesting.
perhaps if you created more pages that were less cluttered.
IF there were pages, then I missed them completely.

great content though… it’s hard to find freebie workout tips.

I really appreciate the input guys. The wordpress community is just wonderful and I’ve received so much help here in these forums from all of you.

I’ve since decided to do a complete overhaul and am spending a few dollars to make some much needed improvements. My plan is to use the Revolution Pro Business premium wordpress theme.

I’m experimenting with a few different logos and there’s another thread I posted regarding the logo that was pretty exciting.

    I love wordpress!

Thanks again to all of you!

Your “logo” text at the top stands out (but not in a good way); you need to blend its background color with the background color at the top there; make the transparent part of the *.gif match the background it’s on. It’s not quite there yet. ??

Move “Get a Free Consultation” “above the fold;” people have the attention spans of gnats for the most part; if you are serious about your consulting business, make sure they see that section first.

And those extra wide ads hanging off the side under “Other Sites”? Put that on your links page or something. You want to keep the sidebars nice and tidy. Personally I detest three column layouts. Like having a huge handbag [or for you guys, a bigger garage ;)], it just tempts you into piling more stuff there instead of forcing you to organize your site. But that’s just me.

It looks like you’ve spiffed it up a bit since your first post a couple of weeks ago. It looks pretty clean to me.

I would definiately recommend changing the logo font as it’s really hard to read.

did you design the site with IE?
you might want to check out what it looks like in firefox as well. I use firefox and half of your images seem to be in the wrong place. or maybe they are too wide for the design, and have started overlapping your sidebar.

you’ve also got some text overlapping the images, and some other text overlapping other text, rendering it unreadable.
