• I just did the theme update and get the following error:

    Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
    Origin Template is missing.

I haven’t changed anything form the original installation – did something get renamed in the update?

    Well now that’s weird.

I used the auto-update on 2 sites (different hosts) and on my localhost installation and it seems to work.

Hopefully this is some sort of temporary/accidental repository problem.

You all are saying that you manually installed the theme to fix the problem, but when I open the downloaded .zip I don’t see the missing “index.php” that WordPress told me about.

Installing Theme from uploaded file: origin.0.5.zip
    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the theme…

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the index.php file.

    Theme install failed.

Could anyone help me by telling me what they did to fix this?

Apologies for not posting in a new thread, but I figured since everyone here resolved it, they could help me out.

1- I tried to update the theme from the interface : fail (The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the index.php file.)
2- I deleted the files from the filesystem, and installed the theme : fail (The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the index.php file.)
3- I deleted the files from the filesystem and uploaded the theme manually : success

It seems that when you download the theme directly to your desktop, you are more likely to get the complete archive, rather than an incomplete archive (although I have duplicated both with a manual download). See my comments above.

Since we’re discussing the same problem, involving the same theme, if you follow step three as suggested by nicholas.suter, it looks like removing the old theme from your theme directory, then uploading the new one using your ftp client, might solve your issue with the Origin 0.5 theme archive as well.

3- I deleted the files from the filesystem and uploaded the theme manually : success

There seems to be an odd issue with this archive. Using Firefox 19 I just clicked on this download link 6 times.

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/origin

Out of those 6 clicks, 3 times the download size is reported as 378kb and 3 times it was reported as 224kb.

Using Chrome, the download resulted in 3 successive corrupted .zip archives. All reported at 224kb, and all missing directories and files. A fourth attempt finally downloaded the complete archive.

IE 9 however, consistently reported the archive at 377kb across a greater number of samplings. I did not duplicate the issue using IE 9.

I have both archives currently sitting on my desktop. The smaller of the two is missing (at just a cursory glance) 2 complete directories and 15 files. I’ve duplicated this behavior more than once.

I also attempted to duplicate the discrepancy in reported archive sizes using at least a dozen other themes selected at random. I could not.

[edit] I also finally duplicated the issue using IE 9.
