• I just did the theme update and get the following error:

    Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    Name Description
    Origin Template is missing.

I haven’t changed anything form the original installation – did something get renamed in the update?

  • Hmmm.. sounds like it might be a failed upgrade for some reason. The latest version of Origin (0.5) is definitely working okay for me.

Can you download the theme and try a manual upgrade? That might solve it.

I just wiped the directory and tried to reinstall – got this error:

    Downloading install package from https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/download/origin.0.5.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the theme…

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the index.php file.

    Theme install failed.

Looks like the install package has issues, to say the least.

I did a manual install and while that did actually work, it killed all my widget preferences. The developers really should have checked this package more thoroughly before doing a public release. FWIW I’m using Chrome 24.0.1312.57, OSX 10.7.5 . Maybe they didn’t test it on a Mac?

I wish I could duplicate your issue. I installed Origin 0.5 directly from the dashboard just as you appear to have done, with no errors at all. The theme functioned as expected.

Are you really using WordPress version 3.3.1? (or is a typo?)

The current version of WP is 3.5.1, which is what I’m running.

That’s good. I thought maybe it was just a typo.

There must be a third reason for that problem. The theme installs just fine. It sounds like your server can’t unzip the archive properly.

Of course, it’s checked. Browser and OS (Mac/PC) are irrelevant in this case. Unless you are trying to update a localhost installation.

Must be my server, eh? I wonder why none of the other upgrades have been an issue, then. “It works on my system” is a classic excuse. If you’re not interested in receiving bug reports, just say so.

    Same here, template is missing.
E.g. missing: sidebar-primary, post.php. Seems the automatic update did not work. I will try to update manually.

Okay, now everything is fine. Thanks for this nice theme!

Broken for me. Updated last night before sleep, theme has been shuffled into “broken themes” in the network admin, site defaulted to 2012. Reports “Template is missing.”

I’ll fool around with it after coffee, but this is really annoying.

I also fixed this issue by deleting the theme and re-installing.

@ Andrew Nevins – we’re all having the same issue, apparently. Doesn’t it make sense to keep all reports of the same bug in one thread?

I got to thinking about this, and Just for giggles – and to make sure all things were as equal as possible – I just installed the last version (origin.0.4) on a test site, then let WordPress do the automatic update to version 0.5, and what do you know… I did indeed duplicate your errors.

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
    Name Description
    Origin Template is missing.

After a visual inspection of the 0.5 download, there appears to be no index.php (style sheet looks okay) in the origin.0.5 package. I’m looking at it right now. I have no explanation as to why the install of 0.5 I did yesterday worked just fine.

[edit] and I just downloaded it again, and now there is SEVERAL more files, including the index.php ????? I have two directories on my desktop, of the same theme 0.5, downloaded only minutes apart from each other, and there is indeed dramatic differences in the number of files in the archives. Now we have a mystery. ??

[re-edit] – additional info (if relevant at this point) downloaded to WIN 7 using FF, WordPress test install is running on CentOS 6.3

Just to add to the pool, this is definitely not a unique problem: today after the automatic update from the Dashboard I had the same error, so I downloaded the theme from its website and upgraded it manually, which fixed the issue. FYI.
