Template issues – [IF]

I built a pod a couple of months ago, and everything worked fine, but now the [if] statements seem to have stopped working. Has the syntax changed recently?

Cause the distance variable outputs, but not when using the [if]

Stage: {@starting_from} to {@riding_to} [if @via]via {@via}[/if]
{@distance}
[if @distance]{@distance}km[/if][if @climbing_metres], {@climbing_meters}m climbing[/if]
