Template not applying at all

  • I’m baaack! ?? I asked a while ago about cleaning up old posts. I’ve finally posted a new ep of the podcast, and the template is still not applying, so I think the template part of my situation is less a problem with authors on old posts and something wonky with the settings/config.

    I’d love to be taught how to fish on this one: if there are errors applying a template, should I see logs somewhere? If there is a problem applying a template, will it fall back to a default excerpt?

    Here are the details:

    Before the Future Came is a podcast that looks at the ideals of Star Trek as we voyage from one episode or film to the next, following a breadcrumb trail of motifs.

    • The episode has a custom excerpt that is a paragraph of plain text.
    • Author profiles are off.
    • I fixed my previous issue of the Seriously Simple Podcasting player widget showing in even my custom excerpts by going to Podcasting –> Podcast Settings and disabling the excerpt option of “Media player locations”. (Just a little tip for anyone else confused by that.)
    • The AP view of the post (https://beforethefuture.space/podcast/s01e09-in-a-mirror-darkly/?activitypub) only has the excerpt and hashtags, not the title or permalink from the template.

    So… how I diagnose this problem? And what are some possible places to look for issues?

    This is so weird!!! Do you maybe use a plugin that hooks into the template function?

    I think I have to check the old issue, what we already tried out ??

    Can you maybe deactivate everything except the ActivityPub plugin and then check the JSON output?

    I’ll give that a try! Now that you say that, I wonder if it’s not the podcasting plugin itself that’s “winning” on the Episode post type.

    Simply Serious Podcasting. I see on Github that there have been improvements in the AP plugin for integrating with SSP over the last year or so, but SSP seems like a bit of a beast and has Elementor tucked away in it. I’ll have to try to reproduce the issue on a duplicate of my production site, since turning off things like SSP will break the entire purpose of the site. ??
