Template Preference

  • I’m having a hard time deciding which template design to choose. I tried both the full screen type and the one with space on either side. Sorry I dont’ know the tech name for these.
    It seems with the narrow template, you have to do a lot of scrolling, especially for long postings, whereas, the full screen type puts a lot more text horizontally.
    Aside from this, is there some other reason for one template style over the other? My screen resolution is 1024 x 768.

    Well, since I have no idea which template you’re talking about (I hope not the default one), I’d say go with the full screen style. Most “full screen” styles should reorganize the text based on browser size. In other words, the text will always only extend to the edge of the browser, never further. Unless your template has a very distinct style to it (as is the case with Kubrick), you should try to get as much content on the screen as possible, but avoid horizontal scrolling at all costs.

    Yes, I agree. After trying about 40 of them, I’ve come full circle and like the default best with just a slight color change here and there.
    I do quite a bit of news quoting the some of those articles are a lot of text and the narrow profile templates make for too much scrolling to get to the end. The three column ones are out of the question.

    Have you tried Kubrick? It’s really a very nice one to start with.

    Thanks macmanx, I will download Kubrick today and play with it. I really like this WordPress. At first, it was a little bit confusing for a complete newbie but after one good install, it’s now a piece of cake and is a 5 minute install.
    Only thing now is to find out which css code block applies to what on the site so some more intense reading today. I wish there was a screenshot and what css code applies to it.

    since when is Kubrick liquid? I always thought it was fixed-width and not very wide at that.
    I guess it’s nice if you want an idenitkit-looking blog but for me I would rather have something more unique.

    Anon, Kubrick is fixed-width. But we were talking about different templates long before I brought up Kubrick.
