Template that lists relevant blog posts

I am currently using the Voyage theme, and would like to create a page template with an additional content area which will automatically list post titles of a specific category. (i.e. a page about recipes will have a list of blog posts that have the “recipe” category)

I have been stumbling around for about a week, and I am not sure if I am anywhere closer to having this figured out than I was before. What is the best way of accomplishing this? Also, what is some of the relevant jargon that will help me learn more about this subject?
