template unchangeable

absolutely weird thing with my most beloved event plugin, used on several sites, experienced user:

i integrate the event list into a standard 2022 page with
[events_calendar long_events=1 full=1]
output fine.
i could change the layout of the event in list view in the file ONCE:
\wp-content\plugins\events-manager\templates\formats\event\event_list_item_format.php

em is the only plugin. fresh clean wp install, actual version.
just a child theme with a little extra functions.php and css. that’s it.

after being able to change the layout ONCE by e.g. adding code like
<div class=”em-event em-item” style=”–default-border:#_CATEGORYCOLOR;”>cccccccccccc

now NO change is being taken over. i checked with 4 browser, always cleared cache. no wp cache online. still, even when i DELETE the file above on the server, the ouput still stays the same. any idea why?

furthermore, i could not take the changes over into the file
wp-content\themes\2022-child\plugins\events-manager\templates\formats\event_list_item_format.php – but that file and location shold be the right one?
