• Hello,

I’ve been battling the issue of a slow site speed for over a year now. This mostly counts for life to legend, but also for tezartdesign.eu. My host claims it’s not them, and services like varnish are enabled on the host side of things. Both websites are don’t he same host package.

Todays stats for Life to Legend were:
    Total Blocking time: 27,060 ms
    Largest contentful paint: 8.5 s
    Cumulative Layout shift: 0.373

I’m at a loss about how to fix it. Site Kit comes with a whole bunch of suggestions I can’t do anything with. I only use plugins I need, so I cant reduce unused CSS or java scripts, and I use smush to automatically resize the images that are uploaded.

I have no clue what to do with ‘eliminate render-blocking resources’ the description sounds kinda icky as it can break my template (which is the7 of themeforest).

Should I dig into these suggestions? Are they actually the solution, or are they just that: Suggestions? And if they are, what should I focus on?

Basically I’m just looking for some direction because this speed is extremely painful. I get why my website is not getting more visitors lately. I hope someone can give me a bit of directions.

    Thank you!

  • You have unoptimized images on the page, your background is 4Mb which takes the most time. Optimize it and also crop it to 16:9 ratio for the page background.

You also need to use the optimization plugin to optimize js and css and add expiry headers. It will be good if you can use a CDN as well.

Also, in some sections, you’re a large image that it’s the required size. For example, the home page banner image is 1500px while it should be just 1200px.

Basically, your website is not optimized. and especially when using images, always make sure you’re uploading the correct dimension and optimized images. don’t just depend on software or automated services to do the resized and optimization for you.
