    Hi, I know you get this issue a lot, but I have checked many times and have tried different ways to connect the joomla DB info to the plugin in the new WordPress instal, but it’s not connecting. I’ve used all the right settings. Any idea what might be the problem? Could it be that the two sites are not on the same server?

    Yes, that could be the cause. Please have a look at the FAQ for the solution:

    Hi, I looked at the FAQ and nothing seems to be related. I installed wordpress on the same server as the joomla instal and put in my credentials, but it’s still not connecting in the test connection.

    Any other idea why it might not be connecting?
    Thanks.

    Which error message did you get?
    Please double check the database settings. You can find the Joomla database settings in the file configuration.php.

    hi thanks.
    I tried the fix, but it didn’t seem to work. Here is the error
    === START test_database 2016-09-13 20:02:21 ===
    [ERROR] Couldn’t connect to the Joomla database. Please check your parameters. And be sure the WordPress server can access the Joomla database.
    SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Access denied for user ‘nyfrforg_albanyupdate’@’localhost’ (using password: NO)
    Please read the FAQ for the solution.

    I tried to do the Remote MySQL that it suggests, but where do I put the ip address once it’s made. I don’t understand how to do the second solution on the FAQ.

    Thanks

    You must put the IP address in the Hostname field.

    For the second solution, you must install WAMP or MAMP on your computer, then install WordPress on your computer, export the Joomla database in a SQL file with phpMyAdmin, import this SQL file in your local MySQL and run the import on your local WordPress.
    Once the site is ready in local, you can move it back to the live server using the plugin WP Migrate DB.
