    Hi,

I have a client who is interested in a wordpress website. He would like to see a design samples first. What I would like to do is go to my personal webhost, download wordpress into a folder and expriment with a theme. After I have a design I think he might like, I would then send him a link to the test website on my web host’s server so he can see a working copy (it would basically just be 2-3 pages at first). I do not want to set this up on his web host’s server, because I don’t know at this point if he will want to follow through with the project or not. I am a newbie with wordpress and have been going through some tutorials on setting up the themes. But I’m not sure how to go about putting a test site up under my domain name/web host and make it viewable to him.

Hope that isn’t too confusing. Thanks for your advice…

  • Just install WordPress in a sub-folder on your domain and send him the url.

So basically, I just open my c-panel in Lunarpages,
    go to my file manager
and create a new folder there and call it “test”,
then download wordpress in that folder…

    Correct??

    Pretty much – yes. ??

I just created a “test” folder on my server. I then downloaded the newest version of wordpress onto my desktop. Then I ftp’d the wordpress files from that folder into the “test” folder on my server.

I then typed the url into my web browser to see if it all worked properly. I got this error message. Any idea what it means?

    https://www.sitesbysarah.com/vj_test/test

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/sitesb2/public_html/vj_test/test/wp-includes/option.php on line 225

    Thanks,

That sounds like a server issue. Do your hosts offer PHP 4 and PHP 5? If so, ensure that you are using PHP 5.

yes, thanks. I contacted the web host. They said I need to add some code to the .htaccess file regarding the php version. They are taking care of this for me.

    Thanks for your help.
