Test variable for empty string vs ” “

I need to test a variable to determine if it contains either zero length or actual characters and not empty space, like ” “.

Currently I’m evaluating it like so…

if($mytextarea !==""){doNothing();}else{doSomething();}

But it fails to indicate if the text area merely has empty spaces…
