Testing local (osx) from the intranet (iphone, ipad, windows)
-
Hello everyone:
First of all I must apologise to you for trying to get into serious stuff as a newbie. I always discourage my clients to do my job on their own, and I feel I’m not doing the right thing when trying to do my own website. Anyway… let’s get to the point.
I’m trying to create my own wordpress based website. I’m following several tutorials (all of them explained the same steps) in order to install and develop it locally. I’m using Mac OS X 10.6.8, XAMPP 1.7.3 AND WordPress 3.3.1.
Everything went fine until I tried to test the local copy from the intranet. I need to do this because I want to test it from several devices (iPad, iPhone, other smartphones…). Ok, I know this forum is about local installs and the problem I’m trying to solve isn’t strictly local, but I hope this is the best place to ask. If not, tell me where, please.
The problem is similar to one asked previously, but I have tryied several possible solutions and I can’t find a way to solve this problem. Please let me tell you with my own words: when viewing the site from the same computer (127.0.0.1/wordpress) everything seems to work fine. But when I access from my iPad or iPhone (typing 192.168.1.3/wordpress on Safari) it seems I’m able to read text, but the page is “broken”: images and formatting don’t work. I think the post I linked at the beginning of this paragraph explains a problem similar to mine, but I can’t find the solution, maybe because I’m using different software.
Can you give me any clue, please?
Thank you very much for your time.
