    Hello Wayne,

Recently my organization created a new website, migrated all of our content across, and I’ve been struggling to get postie working correctly on the new site. We previously used it to auto-post emails sent out to our mailing list as “announcements” on the old site, using :start and :end to remove headers and footers.

I’ve been sending test emails and an odd thing happens where the test posts include a large portion of the front page of our site copied below the message, after where the :end code is placed. I have no idea why postie is grabbing that content, since it certainly isn’t being sent with the email.

I purchased the dynamic categories add-on so that we could have more control over which parts of the site our emails are auto-posted to. That is the only change on the postie side that I am aware of.

Are you able to assist at all?

    With our thanks.

Seems odd for sure. Please install the support addon and follow the directions to get me detailed logs.

Hi again Wayne, thanks for your response. I checked and did send the email I refer to above to the correct address. Maybe it landed in your spam? I recently received a response from you to another email I sent a few weeks prior, which you stated had been caught by your spam filter.

Ok I figure out the issue on my end (google was not forwarding emails it thinks are spam, should be fixed now)

I don’t see anything on the Postie side of things. I do see you have a bunch of other plugins, might be worth turning off everything then testing a Postie import, then turning them on one at a time with a Postie test inbetween to see if you can identify which of the plugins is causing the issue.

    Could also be your theme.

Often when posting via the editor works, but not through Postie there is a plugin that assumes that all posts are created through the editor and had various hooks into the editor to do whatever special thing they do.

Hi Wayne, thanks for this response, and for your assistance with troubleshooting. I’ll follow the steps above and see what comes of it.

    Hi Wayne,

Since our last exchange I’ve been manually posting to the site as I was unable to resolve the issue. I did try turning off all the other plugins but this seemed to have no effect, as the post still displayed the graphical glitch.

In your message above you suggested that our theme might be causing the issue. I realize that this forum isn’t intended to provide tech support for our WP theme, but if there is anything you might know that might be helpful as I continue to chase this down I’d be very appreciative to hear it.

    Best,

    Simon

One thing to do to very is to temporarily switch to a standard WP theme and see if anything changes.

    Hi Wayne,

I’ve chased down the bug. Basically, it was because the “new single post” template that was included with our WP theme included our front page footer by default. I edited the template to remove that, and this resolved the issue that I began this thread in an effort to resolve. My thanks for your assistance chasing that down.

While I was doing this though I realized that–from what I can tell–postie seems to create new posts using the classic wordpress editor rather than the block editor. This creates other visually unappealing issues that I’d like to try and iron out. Can you confirm if this is the case, and if there is a way to convert the emails to block posts instead?

    Glad you figured it out.

Postie creates classic (html) posts because there is no way in PHP to transform them into blocks. That is only available in JavaScript.

I expect this has nothing to do with classic vs block, and more to do with the styling in the emails.
