Testing with Child Themes

  • I’m sure there are some articles out there that answer my question but I’ve been unable find one. Please point me in the correct direction.

    I have a child theme as recommended when certain modifications to a theme are desired. When an update for the parent theme comes out, how can I test it in the theme previewer to make sure it doesn’t crash my child theme? I’ve been playing Russian Roulette with updates and I feel my luck is running thin.

  • Tests of software updates should be carried out in a staging system. Make a copy of the live system and test the updates there before you apply them to the live system. This way you can always be sure that everything works as it should without risking a failure of the live website.
