• I recently installed the Dinky theme. I liked that the text was over the picture, but later on in the day the text moved from on top of the header to below it. When I go into Appearance -> Editor, it shows it the way it should be, but when I visit the site the text is below. I have deleted the cache and it still shows below the header. How do I get it back on top of the header picture?

    site is recoveringcouponqueen.com

  • It seems you have edited the original theme files that resulted in stray end tags. For modifications/customization, create a child theme instead.

Replace the theme with a freshly downloaded copy of the theme so that the text will move to where it should be.

Ok, that kind of makes sense, but I can’t find the theme directory as it is described in the child theme directions. I tried the wp-theme thing, but it just shows a blank page… thoughts?

The parent them should be installed under wp-content/themes/dinky, so try just using dinky for the Template tag in your child theme. And please not that the template name is case-sensitive. so do use lowercase.

so you are saying I add the wp-content/themes/dinky to my url, correct? I just don’t understand how I am getting to this particular page you are referring to. Or maybe could you tell me how I access it by going to what tab – like appearance -> editor, etc? I apologize for how new I am to this… the simplest things seem so enormously difficult!

[No bumping. If it’s that urgent, consider hiring someone.]

No. You need to start by creating a child theme. Have you done that yet?

OK, so I clicked on the link that explains how to create a child theme. It says to “Create a directory in your themes directory to hold the child theme. The themes directory is wp-content/themes. You should name the directory without any space as part of the name, and it is common practice to use the name of the parent theme folder with “-child” appended to it. So, for instance, if you are making a child of the twentythirteen theme, your folder name would be twentythirteen-child.”

I am stuck on step #1 – “the themes directory is wp-content/themes.” Where is this? I have absolutely no idea where the themes directory is to begin with.

And I don’t mean to bump – I didn’t realize I was doing that. And I would happily hire somebody to do this for me if I had a clue of where to find such a person. Not a website that will make me sit on hold for hours or require only live chat. And no, it isn’t that urgent, it is just enormously frustrating.

    Where is this?

Inside the folder that you installed WordPress into. You can access it using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Thanks for your help. I can’t do this. I didn’t install any file through anything… I am giving it up.

I contacted hostgator and found the FTP thing. I have added the child folder as per instructions above, but now it is asking for a stylesheet. I can’t figure out how to put that in now.

I have also tried totally uninstalling the Dinky theme and then reinstalling it and it is the same problem. Is there anyway to just start over with this theme?

And no, this isn’t a bump… it is a continuation of the comment above. I tried to edit it and it took me somewhere else.

Please review https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Child_Themes The process of creating a child theme is fully explained on that page.

It didn’t work. I followed every word of it.

I’m sorry but you must have made a mistake somewhere. I have lost count of the number of child themes I have created and they have always worked. Unfortunately “it didn’t work” doesn’t give us a lot to go on. Perhaps you need post in the theme’s dedicated forum: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/dinky

It didn’t work means I followed every instruction, deleted the cache and the text is still below the picture. I completely uninstalled the theme and then reinstalled, still nothing. The page didn’t change at all. I will post in the dedicated forum.
