• After I installed the newest update, my text widgets disappeared.

    So far I’ve…

*Tried other themes to ensure it’s not theme related…IT’S NOT
    *Deactivated ALL plugins…DIDN’T FIX IT.

    HELP?

  • Try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I deleted ALL the plugins that I wasn’t using and then deactivated ALL my plugins…still no text widget…

    What am I missing?

So, delete all of your plugins, full stop. One of the plugins you are using might be causing the problem, even if it is deactivated. You can always put the plugins back later. Just download them to your computer and re-upload them after you run a test or two.

Now, do you mean that the text widgets you created are gone or that you can’t find the text widget widget at all?

You might also check that all of your widgets are up to date and that all of the files were uploaded correctly. Just re-upload the core files. FTP can hang and files end up missing or corrupt. That built in updater seems to be even more troublesome, and the third part update scripts even more trouble still… but maybe that’s just me.

I would reinstall the new upgrade. Often a file does not upload right or gets mangled.

Exactly. I always delete these folders and files on my server prior to performing an upgrade:

    /wp-admin
    /wp-includes
*.php (EXCEPT for wp-config.php; don’t delete THAT!

Also don’t delete .htaccess or robots.txt (if you have one) in your site or WP root.

Then once those two directories and those *.php files are deleted, you can begin uploading the fresh files.

Don’t forget to deactivate your plugins (ALL of them) prior to upgrading. Also, backup your database (you are using the WP-Backup plugin to do this, right?!) and I always download my theme and plugin folders to my hard drive just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for all your help so far…

    This is a REAL bummer…

I cannot figure it out…I’ve upgraded EVERYTHING!!! DELETED ALL unused plugins…deactivated ALL plugins…checked problem with another theme…STILL THERE…cleared the cache…

    Still no text widgets…
