Text widget curtails url in link

I have a text widget which gives a link to another page on my website.

The url is in the form: https://www.domainname.com/pagename.

It all looks fine but when clicked it leads only to https://www.domainname.com. Which is the homepage where the linkis displayed. At the moment I don’t want to put up the actual url for privacy reasons. Was wondering if anyone else had had this problem. Should there be a trailing slash? Or does there need to be reference to a specic page (xxx.html) rather than just a folder?

Any help appreciated. I am fairly new to WordPress but not HTML, just setting up my webpage.
