Text widgets lost content on move

I uploaded my wordpress install from my local environment to a test live server, which I have done numerous times before. The theme uses a number of text widgets, and each widget no longer contains a text box in the admin panel. The original widget text is in the database (I copied the db and imported it on the live server), but wordpress doesn’t seem to recognize it. Obviously I can pull the text out of the db and manually re-create the text boxes, but I’d rather not. Any idea why this happened? I’ve tried deactivating plugins, switching themes and switching back, to no avail.
