• Excuse my previous review. I was overwhelmed by frustration combined with the jungle in the Google systems.

Since I quickly looked for an alternative without really looking at the documentation, I had many question marks.

Now that I’ve read through the documentation, things are a lot easier for me.

Of course, you can’t do anything about the fact that Google finds it difficult to build simple structures.

I’m looking forward to your update with the new Openstreet Map and I’m curious about the result.

Until then, I’ll give your plugin 4 stars.

The 5th star is the implementation of the Openstreet Map and possibly a small revision of the overview of the plugin on the settings page

  • Hi there,

Wp Store Locator is a very advanced plugin with tons of filters and customizations. It is true that the onboarding process for creating the API keys can be a bit cumbersome, but I honestly believe it is well documented and, on the other hand, it depends on Google (since they are providing the maps anyway).

The fact that you need an account with billing enabled is well documented as well, so I don’t think it should have come as a surprise.

Google Maps is not free, and you shouldn’t blame us for that. However, there is a monthly $200 allowance, which should be enough for normal usage. That is also explained in our documentation.

Having said that, we are working on a major new update that will indeed include support for OpenStreetMaps, so stay tuned!

@domeetr you must overlooked the page where it explains how to setup the API keys?

First thing it says is that you need to setup a billing account ( “The Google Maps Platform requires the usage of API keys and an active billing account.” ), before explaining the difference between the two type of keys, and how to create them.

The settings page indeed has many options, this should be shortened. But leaving 1 or 2 star reviews, just because you didn’t follow the required steps in the documentation is always a bit strange to me.

I mean, you didn’t seem to have really read it since you are surprised Google Maps isn’t free, even though the the documentation mentions “This comes with $200 free monthly credit, which is sufficient for normal usage.”

So you basically leave a bad review for a plugin, just because you didn’t want to read the documentation? Google requires the API keys, not me, it’s therefor an unfortunate step you have to take before it works.

The next update will indeed add support or OpenStreetMaps.
