The Basics – New Host
-
Hi,
I’m not sure this is the right forum (apologies if not).
Basically I’ve inherited a project with a website solution that needs updating.
I can easily build a new site in WP but I have only ever amended or built a using a new theme on an existing host and domain name.
My technical knowledge beyond this is rather limited.
The new site will need to be moved to a new host and I’m not sure what to do in terms of getting the necessary information into a new solution that will ensure the email addresses and URL associated with the domain will transition to the new house.
The site is a simple one – it serves a membership network that conducts events three or four times a year, so I will need to transfer existing member emails (probably utilising .CSV?) from the old site and host to a new one.
The current site uses Joomla and the current host will help by providing all the relevant information but will not to do any of the physical setting-up on a new host….and I can’t find anywhere any information that will just walk me through it step-by-step.
Any help or pointers would be wonderful.
To summarise – existing url, existing email address associated with it and a lot of member emails (within Joomla) need moving to a new site (to be built) on a new host (to be sourced) using www.ads-software.com. What are the steps, pitfalls and things to look out for? I’m conscious that I could sign up to a hosting solution and potentially build the site ready for transitioning / re-pointing of the url, email addresses and importing the database (probably using a mailchimp plugin)….but I am really stuck after that. I have already archived or re-written the content I wish to incorporate into a new site.
Many thanks
