The best, by far

This plugin is simple to use, robust, comprehensive, powerfull and not only integrated with the WP core user management and taxonomies, CPTs, buddyPress, BBpress, woocommerce, multilanguage, but also follows WP logic.

Having tried most content restricton / membership plugins for WP, and usually along with each one comes a bloatload of code and usage logic specific to that plugin, creating an enormous complexity and development/management workload.
It’s understandable, in most cases the devs try to push some sort of “premium” version, which is supposed to solve this-or-that out-of-the-box, but mostly ends up creating complexity and diverging from WP core logic.

Not this one: simple,concise, focused on what it’s supposed to do, and integrated with WP and it’s main plugins for tackling with what they are supposed to do.
Just whished there were more plugins made this way.
