    Every other “free” image optimization plugin I have tried to use turns out to not be so free when you actually try to convert your images. They all want you to process your images on their server so they can charge you for that privilege. Or they hide some essential feature in the “premium” tier to make you pay through the nose, after roping you in with the promise of free image conversion. Or they limit the amount of images that you can process for free to a ridiculously low number.

    Not so with EWWW Image Optimizer. While they do offer a subscription-based option which is required for some additional, non-essential features, this plugin is capable of doing the whole enchilada on your own server and at absolutely no cost. You don’t have to sign up for any external accounts, and there are no limitations on quantity of images it will process on your own server.

    If you are just looking to compress all of your images while retaining their quality, and all without paying a cent, this is the plugin you are looking for. I have used it on dozens of sites with excellent results every single time.

    Indeed, that’s pretty much our goal: making image optimization accessible to anyone that wants/needs it!
    Adam & I were talking recently about how much you get out of the free version. It surprised me, and I built the crazy thing! You can get free unlimited lossless compression, free unlimited lossy (via WebP), lazy load (with auto-scaling features), and the plugin will even help you track down images that need to be scaled down manually.
