• Hi,

I want to create my own wordpress theme from scratch, i’ve had a look at 1 or 2 tutorials but noticed they are both very different. At this moment in time i don’t know what’s good and what’s bad, so can anyone recommend any good tutorials online?

I’m looking for something that will guide me through setting it up and then styling it. I have a design vision in mind and it’s minimal, so i don’t need anything too complicated.

I am NOT a total n00b…i am qualified in HTML & CSS and know some PHP. I also have WordPress installed on a localhost test server and i have my blank theme activated and ready to use with the correct file structure in place.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  • if youre not a total noob then you have heard of google, and you also know that one person’s idea of “best” is apt to be different than someone else’s idea of “best”.

    Right?

if you want to the source, then go here:

Obviously i’ve heard of google, like i said i’ve already been reading a few guides. And while one person’s idea of “best” is apt to be different from someone else’s idea of “best” that does not mean to say the articles are badly written and/or have unnecessary step and code.

I’ve seen many tutorials, but what I though of as enlightening was a book called ‘A Complete Guide to Creating Professional WordPress Themes’ by Tessa Blakeley Silver (Packt Publishing).

Also, https://css-tricks.com has some good tutorials (screencasts).
