That first and second icon is the stupidest joke in Guternberg.

Column, group, blocks, convert group, select column, transform to block, transform to group really gets on my nerve. As a technical person, I can’t even understand what is going on after a few clicks of switching back and forth columns and blocks and groups. It mess up the entire layout and can’t even undo. No way any normal person can use this.

I really want to love Gutenberg but this mess makes me wonder the brains behind the concept. Why make things so difficult to use and understand?

@astralliquid thanks for your feedback – I’m bummed you’re having such a bad experience. Can you explain a bit more what you’re finding tricky? It sounds like it might be navigating between levels of content. If so, I’d recommend using List View:

Core Editor Improvement: Improve your workflow with List View

Otherwise, please know that you’re welcome to open specific issues in the Gutenberg repo:

The lack of guide borders, lines, sections makes it extremely hard to know what is happening. If you click on column, group or blocks mutliplte times, the size and margin changes without any indication what is happening.

As I read all the bad review and the response provided, it is quite clear you guys are indenial of all the issues everyone is complaining. You might not feel the problem since you are all so technical and smart. But for us normal users of WordPress this is a sad time. And no one is listening.

@astralliquid thanks for the additional context.

This is great feedback and relates to a few issues that have been discussed including, most recently, the idea of showing outlines when in Select mode. I’ve added your feedback there: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/25133#issuecomment-951140817

I really hope this exchange helps show you otherwise. For context, I use the editor every day and you can see the many issues I’ve documented with the experience here: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/created_by/annezazu I very much feel similar pain points, seek out feedback from folks like you, and am keen to see solutions in place.
