In the Assistant, when bulk editing items, if you set a Category to add, replace, or remove, the checkbox stays checked after processing a batch of images. If you have a large number of categories, it’s very easy to miss that additional checkbox when adding a new category to a group of images, resulting in a lot of wasted effort to go back and remove the previous incorrect category. Is the checkbox persistence something that happens by default, or did someone request that specifically? Maybe this behavior could be toggled?

Thanks for your question. I am happy to say that the current MLA version has a feature that should give you what you need.

The Bulk Edit settings are “sticky”, as you’ve discovered, because there are many applications that require editing several batches of items with the same updates.

When you want to start over from scratch with new settings, you can click the “Reset” button below the list of items in the left-hand column of the Bulk Edit area. That clears all of the fields, including the category checkboxes that are often hard to see.

I know it’s not obvious what “Reset” means, but I could not think of a better way to represent this feature; suggestions for improvement are welcome.

I hope that gives you what you need. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

David, it does address my concern, thank you! In a perfect world I’d prefer to have a setting to make the bulk edit settings sticky or not, because of course for my application, I have to reset every single time. Another piece of input is that I probably wouldn’t have needed to ask, if the Reset button was under or over the middle Categories box, instead of being all the way to the left next to the Cancel button. For whatever that’s worth. Anyway, thanks once again for your great work!

Thanks for your update and kind words.

I put the button on the left because 1) the reset clears all of the fields, not just the categories and 2) the center column is the longest/tallest and I wanted to minimize the vertical space taken up by the Bulk Edit area.

Perhaps I should call the button something like “Clear Fields” or “Clear All Values”; would that help?

The tricky part is that it doesn’t clear the selected items to be worked on, only the edit fields. Clear Fields is a better indicator of that, IMO.
