I have been using WP for several years and I am very satisfied. I have now changed the shapely themes to blocksy. I have my own server and I regularly save the web directory and also mySQL database. After installing the blocksy theme, I backed up the b directory and mySQL database.

I have customized the theme as needed. I did not add any articles, pictures, etc. to the website. I backed up the mySQL database again and it is now 20 MB larger.
    Why ?

According to moderator t-p, I should look for the answer here. The original question is here

  • Hello @janyx

This is more or less normal. Customiser options and other theme options are indeed stored in the database and as long as you keep customising and adding new options different from the defaults, the database will grow.

This will happen with pretty much any other theme or plugin out there that offers extensive customisation options.

What would be recommended to monitor is the database size after the initial customisation wave. It shouldn’t grow any larger once the defaults have been modified. Can you try and monitor that?

    Thanks!

    Hi @janyx,

I just tested a WooCommerce site where I use almost all Blocksy features to see the Blocksy database size and the database size is only 1.3mb uncompressed.

If you have a 20mb increase, it’s worth checking your setup again.

Is it possible to clean the database somehow? I’m just tweaking the website and the database is still growing.

    Hello @janyx

It would be helpful if you could dump the database and send it our way so that we can see what keeps increasing its size. If you could send it to hq [@] creativethemes [.] com, it would be perfect.

You might also want to take a look at this plugin – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/advanced-database-cleaner/. It claims to “clean” the database.

Please note – before doing anything to the database it is extremely important to take a backup for that just in case scenario.

    Thanks!

    Well thank you
I used advanced database cleaner and after cleaning the database is 5.5MB. I checked the website now and everything seems to be working.
