The death of Nextgen?

Who is the genius who decided to introduce a premium version of a popular plugin used by millions of users by breaking the free version that made it so popular? After using this for 5 years, this latest upgrade crashed my site, only to find that suddenly 5 of my plugins are no longer compatible with it. Even after removing ALL other plug-ins, I still cannot get any gallery effect to work – including lightbox.
I am attempting to roll back the version, but having trouble with that also! I see this as the beginning of the end for this plugin….
