• I’ve just updated to the latest version of WordPress (v5.0) and now I can’t edit any pages or posts. In other words this update has just broken the site.

As soon as I click into the editor, it falls over and throws the following error…

“The editor has encountered an unexpected error.”

This is a clients site so I need a solution quickly.

Thanks Lisa for the fast reply.

No backups that I’m aware of, to be honest I’d rather find a quick workaround as Im under the pump here.

ill try the plugins you suggested and report back.

Is there any way to have the option of choosing onsite between classic and this new interface editor?

Not sure what sort of feedback you’ve received but here on my 22″ monitor the new editor is very narrow, leaving huge white (seemingly wasted) gaps of nothingness either side.

Seems pointless really and makes editing the content much more challenging.

Issue resolved using the classic editor plugin.

This new block editor to me at least, seems pointless. In addition surely I shouldn’t need to install a plugin just to use what should be a core feature of WP.

The fact that 700,000 people have downloaded and installed the classic editor should say something. I really hope that WP doesn’t lose focus here by implementing fancy crap that we dont need.

    Thanks again.

Have the same problem here. Fun part is that all the buttons that are shown aside this message don’t do anything … furthermore it is not possible to get to your content anymore. It seems like the new WordPress is highly dangerous in this regard because it is not easily possible to restore these corrupted contents.

I’ve installed the classic editor plugin an it works again but it leaves me speechless that a modern content management system rejects your contents on first occurence of a problem.

    side note to @andrewtutin , @elirab ,

As I wrote before to other user, Please do not jump into other topics. If the troubleshooting already posted made no difference for you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. A lot more people will see your post, and that way you stand a good chance of getting the assistance you want. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole.

Hi, I just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the solution. I too upgraded to 5.x and it broke the post editor. Installing the Classic Editor plugin fixed it.

Still, I am confused as to why this would happen. It’s a huge issue that WordPress needs to address and fix.
