• The editor is very slow. Please stop integrating Gutenberg to the core and making it as a separated plugin

  • Thanks for taking time to leave a review and test Gutenberg. I would love to learn a little more about what was slow for you. Was it the experience of writing or interactions and settings themselves? May I ask what browser version you are using for reference?

I would second this experience. In both firefox and chrome, the experience is agonising.

Everything is slow, but it is simply trying to type that is the most agonising.

I type a sentence, and then have to wait 10 seconds or slow to see it gradually appear on the screen.

Currently the gutenberg editor is totally unusable for me.

I have had intermittent slowness which I think is due to lots of varied blocks in the editor. It isn’t all the time or what I’d call frequent but I’ll try to see what brings this about. Also not terribly slow but sluggish. I also have other intermittent problems which have been reported elsewhere, obviously fixed, then return such as white screens in editing mode. I always figure it’s being worked on so I have written most of these off.

I use most recent FireFox Quantum Developr 63.0b10.

For me, the perceived speed is fine during editing. Rather it’s saving, even after a change of one word in a paragraph, that is slow. In fact, currently WordPress flashes the View Post (as if it were done updating) while the fancy new “Updating” animation continues for another 2 to 3 seconds. Clearly it’s not holding a copy and doing just a delta or diff update, but something much more involved. If the team could get the update functionality to be zippy or zippier at least, it would save users a lot of time IMO. Thanks! I am enjoying Gutenberg. For the site in question, it’s a great match (mostly writing). Also I’ve noticed some add-ons coming into the plugins marketplace that look intriguing (more blocks to play with, like i’m a kid again, right?)… Pardon the digression.

Listen, the editor looks awesome but IT IS INCREDIBLY SLUGGISH!

I recently created a very big post, around 4000 words, with images and image galleries, and everything is slow when working with it:
    – selecting text
    – adding new blocks
    – formatting the text

    My WP version: 4.9.8
Browser I tested in: Firefox Quantum 63.0.3
    Macbook Pro Retina mid-2014

    Hiya,

This is another users 3+ month old topic at this time, I would encourage you to create a new topic if you are experiencing issues at this time, as much has happened since then, and every post here sends out a bunch of emails that some may view as spammy.

I’m marking this thread as closed for now, to avoid further notifications going out.
