When an new post is published, I have this plugin set up to email the users so they know about it. And using a short code I was able to include the post content in the email.

The problem is that my paragraphs get pushed together into one big paragraph in the email. Is there any way to get it to separate the paragraphs the way they are on the blog?

    Hi kuurt,
    Thanks for your message.

It sounds like a plugin or theme conflict to me. Are you able to follow the instructions in this post and let me know how you get on?

    Thanks,
    Jack

I tried the first plugin (email log), but it didn’t help. My paragraphs in my emails still get squished together into one big paragraph.

I installed the postman plugin, but it didn’t send the emails at all. In the log section it says “connection refused”.

So then I tried to follow the next steps to set up postman correctly, but I don’t understand how to do it. I have no idea what I should be typing in to some of the fields in the setup process, and the tutorial video doesn’t make it any more clear.

For example, it asks me for my outgoing mail server hostname. Hostgator is my host, but I don’t know if they want that or whatever my particular server’s name is, which I wouldn’t have any idea.

The guy in the video gives an email address that starts with “postman@…”. So I’m not sure if I’m suppose to do the same or just my email (david@acimsnowlandsclassroom). I used that because that’s what I want the mail sent from.

The next steps get really confusing because now it’s wanting me to authenticate something with Google that I don’t even understand. I don’t understand what that is all about and I’m not even using a google email address anyhow.

So basically I don’t understand how to fill out the postman setting correctly.

    Hi kuurt,
I wouldn’t worry about Postman SMTP for now as if Email Log is showing odd results then it won’t help you at the mo.

Can you deactivate all plugins, revert to the Twenty Sixteen theme, etc. like it says in that help document and re-test? It still sounds like a plugin conflict so I need to know that *all* plugins are disabled except for BNFW.

    Thanks,
    Jack

Ok, I deactivated all plugins except for BNFW, and I switched to the Twenty Sixteen theme before creating a new post. When I check the email that it sends out the paragraphs are still pushed together into one big paragraph. So I don’t see how it could be a plugin conflict since BNFW is the only one currently active.

    Hi kuurt,
    Thanks for clarifying.

    That’s strange – I haven’t come across this before.
Are you able to post some screenshots?

    Thanks,

Sure. Here I have created a new post. You can see that the paragraphs are separated:

Here you can see that the paragraphs get mushed together into one big paragraph went sent as an email:

Here you can see that I have only one plugin active – BNFW:

    Hi kuurt,

Your post shows a custom theme which might be filtering the_content() in some way different. Can you show a screenshot of the post editor screen too?

What happens if you tick and save or untick and save the checkbox called ‘Stop additional paragraph and line break HTML from being inserted into my notifications’, below the WYSIWYG editor?

    Thanks,
    Jack

Yeah, but when I tried it with another theme it still clumped my paragraphs together.

I know what you’re talking about because I saw that yesterday and tried to check it and see if it made a difference, but it didn’t. And oddly today I don’t see that option anywhere – it’s gone.

Here’s a screen shot of my post editor:

    Hi kuurt,
The checkbox I’m referring to is in the Notification editor. Please have a look there.

Can you please show a screenshot of the site using Twenty Sixteen and exhibiting this problem? Better still, a video of the whole issue would be really handy in helping you to troubleshoot.

    Thanks,

I tried to make a video but I start having trouble with camstudio. So all I got is screenshots unfortunately.

My site with the Twenty Sixteen theme:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/tq8r15e74nvf8or/Theme.jpg?dl=0

I only have 1 notification set up to go out when a post is published:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ik3uyhpi2c1x2j0/1%20notification.jpg?dl=0

    This shows the box unchecked:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1xaekc4ecrnz8iy/EditNofificationScreenBoxUnchecked.jpg?dl=0

And here’s the email from the one with the box unchecked:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/hn15svab5tfm14h/EmailBoxUnchecked.jpg?dl=0
    …………………………………………….
    This shows the box checked:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/27ygbps209r27gw/EditNotificationScreenBoxChecked.jpg?dl=0

And here’s the email from the one with the box checked:

Btw, now it’s showing the html in the emails for some reason.

Hmm, if you leave the box unchecked, re-save the notification, then edit in the post in WYSIWYG mode and re-save the post, does this fix it? The only thing I see differently from my testing is the use of Text mode in the post editor.

No it didn’t. I tried everything I can think of, I’m not sure why it’s not separating my paragraphs in the emails. And some of the time it even shows the html in the emails. I also have no idea why it does that.

I don’t know if it would be the plugin or my email that it’s getting sent from. I have hostgator as my host and I was using the email I created through them. I do know that my emails usually takes several minutes for them to get sent.

I have tried checking and unchecking that box and saving the changes after words. I have tried changing my email from [ redacted, support is not offered via email, Skype, IM etc. only in the forums ] to whatever it automatically uses if I don’t specify.

I have tried changing the settings from plain text html mode. I don’t really know what else to try. I can’t believe that nobody else has encountered this problem.

    Hi kuurt,
    Ok, understood.

My only other suggestion is to try with a brand new WordPress site and database with only the defaults installed and then install BNFW and see if it’s the same. If it is, it might have something to do with your hosting set-up. If it’s not then it’s might be something to do with the site that you’re working on.

I’ve been unable to produce it myself and no one else has reported it – that’s not to say that it’s not a bug, just at this stage I have to rule out that it’s not something to do with your site or hosting.

    Hope that makes sense.

I have 2 websites, and today I tried the plugin on my other website and I had the same problem with it. I’m guessing it is my hosting.

    Hi kuurt,
    It could well be.

Are you able to test on another host and let me know how you get on?

    Thanks,
    Jack
