I was asked to look into a problem after a site was up and running. The client wants to use the plugin called “The Events Calendar” but they already have a Custom Post Type called “Events”. Now they are getting 404 errors each time they use the plugin to create a new event.

I thought it was a permalink issue, as there was a lot of talk about that, but I am thinking that it is a clash of the plugin with the custom post type. For example, if you create a new page and give it a custom post type of “Events” and then add it into the Events Calendar, it works. But if you just use Events Calendar alone, then I get 404.

    Environment: WP=3.8.1 and Events Calendar=3.4.1

  • If it’s a conflict with custom code/another plugin with an event-type post type I don’t think we’re going to be able to offer too much help here on the free support forum and would have to leave it to you to figure things out.

For example, if you create a new page and give it a custom post type of “Events” and then add it into the Events Calendar, it works.

I’m not actually clear as to what you are describing here, but it sounds like a rather atypical way of doing things. Do you find you have any problems with just our plugin and a default theme?
