    This is a great plugin but there are two things that in a perfect world I would like to see changed.

    The first and bigger of the two is that the plugin should allow users to load their sidebar(s). Luckily this is a pretty easy thing to fix with a simple hack.

    The second is that it would be nice if the post data could appear above the map instead of below it. Maybe this could even be a user option.

    This is definitely the best events calendar plugin I have used, and I’ve tried several.

    Thanks!

  • I believe you can edit the Custom Templates to decide where on the page everything appears(or doesn’t) including the post content and the Google map.

    from https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/the-events-calendar/other_notes/

    Default vs. Custom Templates

    The Events Calendar plugin now comes with default templates for the list view, grid view and single post view. If you would like to alter them, create a new folder called “events” in your template directory and copy over the following files from within the plugin folder (simple-events/views/):

    * gridview.php
    * list.php
    * single.php
    * events-list-load-widget-display.php

    Edit the new files to your hearts content. Please do not edit the one’s in the plugin folder as that will cause conflicts when you update the plugin to the latest release.

    Hope this helps. Cheers

    I have edited those successfully in the past but oddly enough an upgrade for the plugin came out today, and after upgrading my edits are gone and my sidebar is also gone again. Will have to figure it out again…

    p.s. I tried putting my edits back but now the sidebar gets pushed below the content on 2 of the 3 templates, which is what I have to figure out. So are we to understand that you can create this folder and the plugin will automatically use the files in it?

    Thanks

    It might just be a matter of adjusting the #tec-content attributes that I added to the CSS but I’m not going to deal w/ it tonight.

    It was because of the CSS. By Default the div is set too wide for my sidebar to fit next to it. All fixed now and I moved the map below the content as well, which was equally easy. Thanks for the response.

    Are you supposed to replace the templates in your theme folder w/ the ones in the Views folder? That part of the instructions are not clear. It says not to edit the files in the plugin folder, but that actually works fine except that you do lose your edits when you upgrade. In my case the only edit I made was that I added the call to the sidebar. The documentation also doesn’t mention editing the CSS but I guess it doesn’t take the most inquisitive person to figure that out.

    I know someone who tried to do this w/ the Atahualpa theme and couldn’t work it out because that theme does not call the sidebars from within those templates.

    I believe the idea is to create a new directory in your theme folder called “events”. Then copy the files in the plugin’s Views directory into the new “events” directory. That way you can edit them without a new upgrade overwriting them.

    The only weird element to this is that the file single.php in the “events” directory will replace your Single Post(single.php) file in the theme editor area inside WordPress. It doesn’t overwrite it (because it’s in the “events” directory not the root theme directory) but it will make accessing it in the theme editor difficult.

    Thanks. It’s a bit unclear. I guess in order for this to be true the plugin would have to look for the events folder first and then the plugin folder if the files or the events folder are not present. I’ve just been editing the files in the plugin folder, which works fine. I keep them backed up on my HD so it’s easy enough to put either the edits or the complete files back after upgrading.

    p.s. today I added thumbnails to the list.php template, which makes a nice difference and was easy to do.

    p.p.s. I suppose you could also upgrade manually and simply not upload the templates or the css file. That would be another way to avoid losing your mods.
