• I’m currently using the basic version of “The Events Calendar”.

Within my custom theme, when I click the link to view the standard events (i.e., “view all”, etc.) I’m directed to a page that’s using my index template and not the default template included for events. The meta title of the page reflects the event page title, but it’s using the index template.

The template for viewing single events is working fine. I’m also able to add calendars to the sidebar and/or other pages uses the template-tags. I’m pretty sure I can just create a new page and query the results, but I’d rather start using the default template.

I’ve created an events folder in my theme and duplicates of the template files. I’ve changed the template files individually in order to test anything being reflected. I’ve also changed the permalink structure and updated them. I even created a custom post type archive using “tribe_events”, which I figured would be a good fall back at least, however that too didn’t work.

I cannot include a link to the site as it’s in private beta and password protected. Any help or suggestions as to where I should look would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue, did you manage to resolve this?

    Ree

Just to be clear, I am using a Yootheme and any widget I add to the homepage also appears on the Events page.

    Hey Reebode,

No, it has not been resolved. I have no clue why I can’t get the default events template to show. Is there a way to get the plugin administrators pinged on this issue? This is my first time using the forum.

With regards to your last reply, isn’t that what a widget should do? It sounds like you’re able to at least see your events ‘index’. I’m not using widgets as I manually add stuff to a custom sidebar. But, if you only have 1 sidebar registered, whatever widgets you add to it will show up regardless of the page your’re on. Unless (1)the events page doesn’t call the sidebar., or (2)you add a secondary sidebar and/or conditional(s) to control where certain widgets appear. If you need to call a different sidebar and/or stop the current sidebar from being called, you might want to add the ‘event’ template files to a folder called ‘events’ in your theme and then check out whatever template is used for your main events page and make the necessary edits there.

Same issue. I’m using organic theme’s non profit theme.

I think it has something to do with not selecting a page template when their is more than one option.

    Hey All,

I knew it was a theme issue as I switched to the default theme to test. I had a pretty complicated custom query in my main index and as soon as I removed it, the events calendar started using the necessary template files included with the plugin. However, I think the culprit was a function I had added that forced the main loops to include all of my custom posts. I am still using a custom query within my main loops and it’s working fine.

After all this and once I had it fixed, I decided not to use the included templates for the main events page anyway and created my own query within a custom page that shows all events in chronological order. For my purposes I didn’t need the events separated by upcoming and past. I am also using my own taxonomies for events and so didn’t need the included category function.

If anybody cares I think the plugin is great and has a bunch of cool stuff included. It’s plug-and-play, which is good for people using default themes but I wish it worked a lot better with the included functionality of WordPress. For instance, why make up your own category type when you could have easily included a custom taxonomy? Why not make the location details actual meta info and/or taxonomies so you can then apply filters on the front-end? The list goes on…

Hey guys. Thanks to everybody for their posts on this issue, and apologies for taking some time to get back to you. When we’re in full support mode we hit this forum once a week, and since half the team was out last week we’re just catching up now.

Reading through the thread…it sounds like at the very least, EM11 has this resolved. (Thank you, by the way, for your detailed posts explaining the issue). Desertsounds and Reebode, are you still having issues? Does EM11’s experience point you in the right direction, or does yours appear to be a different issue? Let me know and we’ll do what we can on our end to get it resolved.

    Rob,

Still having issues, the events plugin using the same template as the home page. I am not a coder so I will need simple instructions how to stop this happening.

    Thanks
    Reebode

    Hey Reebode,

Have you tried the different template options in Settings > The Events Calendar > Template?
