The first letter with accents was deleted

If the first letter is with accents, it is not sanitized but deleted.
E.g.:
uploaded filename: ?e?tina.jpg> after upload: ectina.jpg
but…
uploaded filename: x?e?tina.jpg> after upload: xrectina.jpgHow could it be?
