• I just installed version 2.2 and when I go to Themes, I get this…

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    WordPress Classic Template is missing.
    WordPress Default Template is missing.

What can I do to fix this?

  • Okay.

I’d ensure that the default and classic themes that come with WordPress (the ones that came with version 2.2) have been uploaded. Even though I don’t use either of these themes, I’ve noticed problems when they’re not on the server.

I just checked and they are on the server. Any other ideas? I just tried uploading a different theme as well and got the same error!

Hm. It sounds like, for some reason, WordPress is not detecting the two themes.

Actually, the error message says it’s not detecting a “Template” … whereas a theme consists of many templates.

I see a similar issue here:

One person deleted the themes on his server, and then uploaded them again. I’ve found that, (I think) because WP consists of so many files, sometimes the old files aren’t really overwritten — so deleting before uploading works.

Let me know if that works.

I just deleted and then reuploaded the themes and it is still not working. Is there anything else I can check? Should I try downloading and installing an older version of WordPress?

I downloaded version 2.2.1 and that fixed it. Something must be wrong with version 2.2.2

Something must be wrong with version 2.2.2

Nah. If there was, we would have heard of it several hundred thousands time more. ??

Perhaps re-uploading ALL of 2.2 would help next time.

I redownloaded 2.2.2 and have the same problem as before. So I guess I’ll stick with 2.2.1 unless anyone has anything else I can try?

A link to the BIQ would help. Like. Enormously.

When upgrading, it’s very important to *delete* all files on the server except wp-config.php, your themes, and your plugins, and then to upload the new files. Also, if there are new default and classic themes, those should be deleted on the server before uploading the new themes.

I’d never encountered the problem of FTPing (uploading) not completely overwriting files until I dealt with WP upgrades. I suspect the problem is due to the sheer number of files involved, and the communication between the FTP program and the server; not entirely sure, though.

This is a clean install on a brand new domain. Its really strange. Should I check permissions of anything? Would that matter? What file is the “template” file that seems to be missing?

as root has ___already___ said, a link to the blog would help.

why do we have to pull teeth to help ppl?

https://www.gregsfoodblog.com is the site if that helps

    <link rel="stylesheet" href="https://gregsfoodblog.com/wp-content/themes/default/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />

https://www.gregsfoodblog.com/ is not the same as
    https://gregsfoodblog.com/

fix the url settings in your options.

I went to options and tried to change that and I got this…

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/options.php on this server.

What do I need to do so I have permission to make changes to this file?

    (@trentreznor)

Okay, I was able to get into the options page and change it to https://www.gregsfoodblog.com, but that didn’t seem to fix anything.
