I tried to upgrade Jetpack this morning to latest minor update, it upgraded, but then did not get activated. Whatever I did, it was not getting activated… deleted resinstalled, turned off other plugins and everything else, but Jetpack does not budge.

Although the message given above is that “Plugin has been activated”, it actually does not change its state…remains deactivated..

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

it took me to WordPress.com to activate, but on the redirect back to my dashboard, it asked me to login to my dashboard again, but it wouldn’t accept my credentials, or any credentials for our registered users

It’s worth noting that the Jetpack plugin requires you to connect to a WordPress.com account to be fully activated. It might be what’s confusing you here.

To get started, you will have to create a WordPress.com account here:
    https://en.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1

If you had previously created an account, but forgot the password, you can request a new password by entering your email address here:
    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Please note that WordPress.com accounts are different from the account you use to administrate your blog. WordPress.com and self-hosted blogs available through www.ads-software.com are two different entities.
Please check out the following links to learn the differences.

Sorry Jeremy, I was not clear in my last response. When I activated the plugin on the default theme, I was taken to WordPress.com and I logged in there successfully (as far as I could tell), and I was redirected after the login back to my dashboard on my site, where I was strangely asked to login again–but could not login with any user registered.

So again, I have a WordPress.com account and was logged into it just fine when I activated the plugin and it registered itself that I had an account on WordPress.com…but following that confirmation with the reroute back to my dashboard, I was suddenly locked out.

This sounds pretty clear to me that it is likely an issue either with my server/database or possibly my theme. But it’s so wonky I can’t tell. On the support forum for my theme, no other users have noted this issue with Jetpack. Perhaps I’m euchred.

Alright, I understand now. I’m afraid this is out of my hands, since this login screen is not related to Jetpack.
If you still cannot log in, I would recommend that you try to reset your password as explained here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password

You might also want to try to deactivate any security plugin that may block you from logging in.

    I hope this helps.
