• Hello
I have read the previous topics and I know this feature is not currently available in Subscribe 2. I also searched the whole web, and I could find no other plugin that provides this feature, but I would like to suggest and recommend it. I want to let my users enjoy customized notification frequency, together with customized contents. For example, a user prefers to receive instant notifications of new posts in a certain category, but another one prefers to receive weekly or monthly digests; someone wants to receive only the most popular posts, someone wants to receive the most commented posts, someone wants to receive the most recent posts and someone wants to receive the list of all 3. Someone might like to include or exclude the posts of a particular contributor from their digest newsletters. Someone might even like to define different notification frequencies for the alert system of different categories. I would like to let the users customize their delivery policy and alert systems. Particularly, customizing the delivery interval is crucial indeed. You said this is a challenge for the developers. I know, but it is a very helpful feature. I know PunBB and VBulletin already have such a feature. They even have no-email subscription. This feature lets the user visit the subscriptions page and see the recent posts, without having to receive emails in their inbox.

    Thank you.

It would be nice to deliver all of these extra features but a careful balance needs to be made between a feature rich plugin and it’s ease of use and scalability.

    Hello mattyrob
Yes, I agree. It’s a trade-off. Yesterday, I checked Category Subscriptions. It seems to be the exact thing I am looking for. It allows each user to go to their profile page, and subscribe to the desired categories. For each category, the user can select a different delivery period. For example, they might decide to receive immediate notifications about computer news, but weekly digest about medical topics. Unfortunately, this plugin has not been updated for over 2 years, so I am not sure about its future unknown compatibility issues with the recent versions of WordPress. Another plugin that claims to support customizable notifications is “Smart Email Alerts. It is free for up to 250 subscribers, but beyond that limit, we have to pay 29$ per month, which means over 300$ per year. I had never seen such an expensive plugin for WordPress. I said all such things, because I think Subscribe 2 has the potential to become the best available subscription plugin, but it is not yet.
