    Hi guys,

after the last site update, I can’t see the “News Ticker” entry in the left-side menu in the Dashboard. The plugin is still activated and the ticker is being shown in the resulted web page, but I can’t edit the ticker content anymore. Could you help?

    Regards

    Henryk

I added custom capabilities in version 2.1.0 to make the accessibility more flexible. They should have been applied to the default roles mimicking basic post capabilities… I’m not sure what may have happened on your site but there are a few things you can do to resolve this:

    1. You can first try disabling, then re-enabling the Ditty News Ticker plugin. If that doesn’t work, then continue on to the next step.
    2. Install and activate the Members plugin (temporarily) https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/members/
    3. Go to Users > Roles and select Administrator
    4. Select News Ticker and then check every checkbox in the “Grant” column
    5. Select Custom and then check Grant for modify_ditty_news_ticker_settings
    6. Hit the Update button to update these permissions you should then see the News Tickers menu item again.
    7. You’ll also want to setup the other default roles based on the info below:

    Editors:
    edit_ditty_news_tickers
    edit_others_ditty_news_tickers
    publish_ditty_news_tickers
    read_private_ditty_news_tickers
    read_ditty_news_tickers
    delete_ditty_news_tickers
    delete_private_ditty_news_tickers
    delete_published_ditty_news_tickers
    delete_others_ditty_news_tickers
    edit_private_ditty_news_tickers
    edit_published_ditty_news_tickers

    Authors:
    edit_ditty_news_tickers
    publish_ditty_news_tickers
    read_ditty_news_tickers
    delete_ditty_news_tickers
    delete_published_ditty_news_tickers
    edit_published_ditty_news_tickers

    Contributors:
    edit_ditty_news_tickers
    read_ditty_news_tickers
    delete_ditty_news_tickers

    Subscribers:
    read_ditty_news_tickers

After settings these, you should be able to remove the Members plugin if you don’t want to keep it on your site.

I’ll need to do some more research to see if there’s a better way to go about assigning these capabilities (automatically), but they should have been added along with the update… I’ll have to see if I hear of any others running into the same issue.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
    it had helped.

I have tried this method, but with no joy after uploading the plugin members and activating it I was unable to find roles under the user tab. Is there any other way of gaing access to the plugin so that I can update my news feed.

I hope you can help with this

    Regards

    Peter

I see that as I am now using wp 4.7 “members” does not work properly with it a different fix is needed please.

I have found a solution that seems to work in the short term if you have wp 4.7 installed.

Download the plugin User Role Editor

go to users roles change editor role for new ticker complete all roles as suggested above.

The news ticker will then reappear in the left menu and you can then deactivate the User Role Editor

I’m not sure what may be wrong with the Members plugin for you (it works fine for me with WP 4.7), but thanks for posting an alternative plugin option for setting roles!
