The plugin changes the quotes “”

I ran into this problem in blog posts that were posted a long time ago. The quotes have been changed. Turned off the plugin, everything was back to normal.
The same thing happened on another site.

Everyone chooses himself quotes to his liking, it’s a matter of taste.
WordPress translates into Christmas trees by default.

I have the same problem, but with German localization: By default a WordPress installation with DE localization replaces ” quotes with ? (at quote start) and “ (at quote end). If Wp Statistics is active, this is broken and standard English ” quotes appear.

It seems your plugin is interfering with the wp localization function that does this replacement (whatever it might be…). I tried switching off showing WP statistics reports in the post area, but it had no effect unfortunately. Really bad, I like WP Statistics very much, but since this bug directly affects the front end and looks unprofessional to site visitors, I cannot use it unforutunately.

Yes, no difference. Disabling the whole plugin will restore the quotes immediately. But disabling just line 29 in class-wp-statistics-frontend.php does nothing.

This is indeed strange, I have no idea what is causing this problem.

I tried the 4 lines, commenting out does not help. But I found something else. The wp function which is responsible for the quotes is wptexturize:

It says a little something in the Codex about timing, mostly when using it yourself in custom code, but maybe helpful.
